Become a Mentor and Change a Life.

Be a volunteer mentor for the Center for Women in Transition by working with newly released women who have been incarcerated for non-violent offenses. You could provide a one-on-one mentoring relationship to a woman by helping her establish and stay focused on healthy and productive goals.

Our Programs

The Center for Women in Transition assists incarcerated and formerly incarcerated women by providing much needed services and resources. Through educational programs and mentoring services, CWIT equips women with the skills needed to take care of themselves and their children.

Programs

The Education Program focuses on addressing factors that are important in reducing recidivism and criminal behavior among female prisoners. Classes include Anger Management, Relapse Prevention, and “Reinventing Your Life". These classes are taught at The Pulaski County Regional Detention Facility and also at the Center.

The Re-Entry Program is designed to prepare female ex-offenders who are transitioning back into the community winthin 4-6 weeks. The class prepares and helps develop a plan for what the women will face upon release from correctional facilities.  Working collaboratively with program participants, social and employment skills are enhanced, community resources are identified, and financial stability is addressed and encouraged.

The Mentoring Program promotes healthy behavior, friendship, socialization, and career/education exploration. These relationships and expectations are designed to reduce recidivism, prevent relapse, improve self-confidence,and instill greater hope for the future.

The Advocacy Program was created to bring the plight of ex-offenders who transition back into society to the forefront.  The program mobilizes, involves, educates and informs the public. The program also transforms the community’s perception about ex-offenders, inspires action, changes behaviors and attitudes, encourages favorable media relationships, develop an advocacy network, and builds strategic alliances that will nurture a more accepting environment for ex-offenders to flourish after being released.  In addition, it addresses legislative polices and reform.
